Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi is an Indian politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from May 2014 to May 2019. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing Hindu nationalist organization in India.

Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, India. He has a background in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 1980s. He rose through the ranks of the party and held various positions before becoming the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001.

As the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi implemented several economic and development reforms that earned him praise for his administration's performance. However, his tenure was also marred by controversy, most notably the 2002 Gujarat riots, which resulted in the deaths of over a thousand people, mostly Muslims. Critics accused Modi of not doing enough to stop the violence, although he has denied any wrongdoing and has been cleared of charges by Indian courts.

In 2014, Modi led the BJP to a decisive victory in the general elections and became the Prime Minister of India. During his tenure, Modi focused on economic reforms, infrastructure development, and initiatives such as "Make in India" and "Digital India." He also launched the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetization, which aimed to combat corruption and formalize the economy. However, these policies received mixed reviews and faced criticism for their implementation and impact on various sectors of the economy.

Modi's government also initiated various social welfare programs, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (financial inclusion program), Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (cleanliness campaign), and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (LPG gas connections for households below the poverty line). He also played an active role in foreign policy, engaging with world leaders and representing India on the global stage.

In the 2019 general elections, Modi and the BJP secured a second term in power with a resounding victory. However, his government has faced criticism for issues such as rising unemployment, economic slowdown, and social divisions. Modi's leadership style and policies have been a subject of both praise and criticism, with supporters applauding his strong leadership and development agenda, while critics raise concerns about issues like human rights, religious tensions, and freedom of expression.
